Top Three Surveillance Camera Styles
In recent years those on the market for a surveillance camera are being given more and more choices when it comes to the style that they choose to purchase. Though the box style surveillance cameras are still the most frequently used, they possess a number of disadvantages and as such two other styles are becoming more and more popular for their superior characteristics.
Box Style Cameras
These rectangular shaped wall mounted cameras have a number of disadvantages despite their frequent use. For a start they require additional protection from the elements as without such they are virtually defenseless against both weather and vandalism. The other disadvantage is that they do not come integrated with a lens like dome and bullet style surveillance cameras and instead require one to be mounted separately.
Dome Style Cameras
Dome cameras are commonly used in a variety of commercial premises and consist simply of a half sphere with a maneuverable camera inside that looks out through the plastic dome. Dome cameras have a number of advantages over box style cameras including the fact that they are both weather proof and very difficult to vandalize. The flat side of the half sphere also makes them very easy to mount on a variety of surfaces. Lastly the maneuverability of the camera inside comes at a far lower price than similar levels of maneuverability on any other style of surveillance camera.
Bullet Style Cameras
Bullet style cameras are frequently referred to as lipstick cameras in the surveillance industry due to their similar size and shape. These cameras are frequently used in outdoor settings and come equipped with a number of features such as IR capabilities, sunshields and weatherproof casings. The downside of such cameras however is that they are not the easiest in the world to set up as unlike dome cameras they require a separate mount in order to attach them to a wall or ceiling.
